Create the perfect Mother’s Day

With Mother’s Day on its way, Donna shares her tips for indulging the mothers in your life with thoughtful gifts, fresh blooms and delicious homemade treats.

As the mum of two fast-growing boys, for me, Mother’s Day is about spending time with my family. It’s also the perfect time to celebrate all the mums out there and all they do for their kids – including my own wonderful mother. In my house, my boys know how much I love a homemade card. I cherish and keep all of the cards they’ve made for me – with their personalised touches and hand-drawn ‘gift vouchers’. They’re so sweet to look back at as the years pass by. It’s the thought that means the most to me.

Here are some of my ideas for making your mum feel extra special this Mother’s Day:

* Breakfast in bed: Whether it’s a cup of coffee brought to me by my boys, or something a little more creative, it’s nice to start the day on a delicious note (not too early!) with a special homemade breakfast. It needn’t be complicated either. Try my raspberry rosewater breakfast parfait, which is simple to make, looks beautiful and has a subtly sweet, rosewater flavour.

* A bunch of flowers: My absolute favourite flowers are sweetly scented garden roses (you might have guessed from the theme of this post that I love to have a bunch of these in the home or office). I love the way they bring a touch of natural beauty into a space – a fresh bunch of blooms really brightens my day.

* Thoughtful gifts: I’m very excited to find that Aerin Lauder has captured my favourite flowers in her rose collection (and, in case my boys are reading this post – these items are at the top of my Mother’s Day wishlist). I find the scent of roses so uplifting, and the AERIN collection makes use of this gorgeous scent. I’m loving the Garden Rose Eau de Cologne, which lets me carry the scent of roses around all day. And during the cooler months I can’t resist a luxuriously hydrating hand cream. This Rose Hand & Body Cream ticks all the boxes for me. Continuing my obsession with roses, I’ve recently become an avid user of the Rose Body Oil  – it’s enriched with evening primrose, rose hip, sweet almond and Argan oils, which soften my skin and give me a hydrated glow.

* Sweet surprises: If you’re planning to surprise your mum this year, my pretty pistachio and rosewater cakes, topped with rose petals are a picture-perfect treat to serve with her favourite cup of tea or coffee. (I’d be very impressed if my sons made these: hint, hint.)

Wishing you a happy Mother’s Day!
